Using fairytales as inspiration for a children’s mural

Fun_murals_snowFairytales are a common theme for wall murals, children have always love them, their characters have inspired many generations, and they bring memories to parents and grandparents.

During more than 50 years, Walt Disney Company have created movies of the most well known fairytales, they have told the stories and have brought to life the characters. If we think about Snow White, we will see the princess with her colorful dress running through the woods, were some scary trees try to hold her with their arms.

If we show a different version of this story to a little child, he will tell you, for sure, that she is not Snow White. If your child is old enough to choose a fairytale for the mural, he or she can be your guide in choosing his or her favorite part.

If you are choosing the scene, you can be as creative as you want, but you have to be aware that, unless you use a story that Disney has not shown yet, your version is not going to be the “real thing”.

You can find beautiful illustrations in books and over the internet; the scene can be as colorful as Disney’s movies or as soft and monochromatic as a classical book.

Keep in mind that your child is going to live “inside” the story for many years and add many little details and characters that he or she can discover over the time. You can have a little mouse hiding in a tree, a bumblebee inside a flower, a bird’s nest with eggs and a little bird showing its head, etc. Children love these small friends and they will inspire you to create many personal stories around them.
